Teenager Yildiz scores debut goal of the season in the new format Champions League
Juventus started in an updated Champions League 2024/25 with an easy home win over PSV — 3:1.
The first goal of the season in the main European Cup was scored by winger Kenan Yildiz. And the Turkish teenager did it in a beautiful way: he moved from the left and “performed Del Piero” (the number ten on his back obliges), curling the ball into the far top corner.
The second goal came a few minutes later thanks to the individual actions of Nicolas Gonzalez on the flank. The Argentine beautifully beat his opponent and delivered the ball into the penalty area, Dusan Vlahovic extended it in the fight, and Weston McKennie easily shot at the goal.
All this time, even at 0:0 and after conceding goals, PSV attacked tirelessly, kept the ball in the opponent’s half for a long time, created half-chances, but all the goals flew into the away goal.
The score was made even more decisive at the start of the second half: Gonzalez received the ball from Vlahovic on a counterattack and, left alone by the defenders, dealt with Joel Drommel.
The game was over. PSV were trying to at least open the scoring. Thiago Motta’s side were seconds away from keeping a clean sheet for the fifth straight game since the start of the season, but Ismael Saibari, with a pass from Yoan Bakayoko, still managed to upset Michele Di Gregorio.
In the second round, PSV will host Sporting Lisbon on October 1, while Juventus will play away against Leipzig the following day.
