Stepanenko played his 100th match in European competitions against Bologna

This is the fifth highest figure among representatives of Ukrainian clubs in history.

Midfielder Shakhtar Taras Stepanenko in yesterday’s match of the 1st round Champions League against Bologna (0:0) played in European competitions for the hundredth time.

The 35-year-old footballer retains fifth place in the list of the main guards of Ukrainian clubs in European tournaments. The leader is Oleksandr Shovkovskiy (Dynamo, 143 matches). Next come former Shakhtar players Darijo Srna (137), Andriy Pyatov (132) and Taison (105), who also played in European competitions as part of Metalist.

In the above-mentioned match, the Donetsk club tied for the 60th time in European competitions. Stepanenko came on as a substitute in the 78th minute, replacing Artem Bondarenko. He managed to get a yellow card.

Gornyaks centre-back Nikolai Matvienko was named the best player of the Bologna-Shakhtar match.

In the second round of the Champions League, Shakhtar will play against Atalanta on October 2. Let us recall that Shakhtar will hold its home matches of the 2024/25 Champions League in Gelsenkirchen. Marino Pusic’s team will host their opponents at the Veltins Arena. Last season, Shakhtar’s home European arena was the Volksparkstadion in another German city, Hamburg.

Marino Pusic’s team will play their next match in the UPL on September 23 against Obolon.
