Earlier, Nikolay was named the best player of the Bologna – Shakhtar match
By the Technical Observer Group UEFA The symbolic team of the week (1st round) has been selected Champions League 2024/25Among others, it included a Ukrainian football player, a defender Miner Nikolai Matvienko.
Let us recall that the 28-year-old defender was named the best player in the Bologna – Shakhtar match (0:0) on September 18. At the very beginning of the match, a virtuoso pass by Matvienko across the entire field allowed Eginald to jump into a striking position and earn a penalty. The 11-meter penalty was not converted by Shakhtar leader Georgiy Sudakov – his shot was blocked by Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.
Subsequently, Bologna attacked more sharply, had two big chances to score at the turn of the halves, but the Miners’ goalkeeper Dmitry Riznyk played flawlessly. The result was a logical draw.
The complete tour lineup looks like this:
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) – Kenny Lala (Brest), David Panyak (Sparta), Mykola Matviyenko (Shakhtar), Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain) – Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (Borussia D), Ryan Gravenberg (Liverpool), Youri Tielemans (Aston Villa), Florian Wirtz (Bayer) – Antoine Griezmann (Atletico), Harry Kane (Bayern).
This is not the first time that Matviyenko has been included in the symbolic team of the Champions League game week. Nikolay was previously awarded this honor in November last year, when he scored the winning goal against Antwerp.
In the second round of the Champions League, Shakhtar will play against Atalanta on October 2. Let us recall that Shakhtar will hold its home matches of the 2024/25 Champions League in Gelsenkirchen. Marino Pusic’s team will host their opponents at the Veltins Arena. Last season, Shakhtar’s home European arena was the Volksparkstadion in another German city, Hamburg.
Marino Pusic’s team will play their next match in the UPL on September 23 against Obolon.
