Lupashko: We must open stadiums. The person buying a ticket should sign an agreement that he has no claims against the football club, against the association, if something happens

Karpaty coach calls for increasing the number of spectators in the stands

Head coach Carpathians Vladislav Lupashko spoke about the importance of spectators in the stands and called for their number to be increased during matches.

“A lot of Karpaty fans died at the front. Many guys continue to fight. Maybe someone was at the front for six months, now he has a short vacation and misses the Karpaty. He came to the stadium, and the team sat down on the defensive, fought back, they scored a lot of goals against us, he came home and thought: “Yeah, I’d rather go for a walk with the kids. F###k that football now, it’s not needed.”

“Now we take it differently. He came, and there was a game with Dynamo – emotions, a lot of fans. We must open stadiums. The person buying a ticket should sign an agreement that he has no claims against the football club, against the association, if something happens.”

“We must open stadiums if we have cities where people want it. For example, Rivne, Zhitomir. Let there be as many people as there are willing. Even Dynamo players, when they came to us, felt that football is alive in Ukraine. When a fan comes to the stadium, he understands that such football is needed.”

“And when we have 100 people coming to a game, why is that and for whom? And then, of course, a coach can sacrifice the game for the sake of the result. And when fans come and shout the whole match, then no matter how much you want, you will play. Then there will be an understanding that football is needed. There is a lot of speculation on this topic now. Football is 100% needed, but when it is sincere and bold.”

The Karpaty – Dynamo match in the 3rd round of the UPL attracted 6,300 spectators – this was a record figure since 2021.

Subsequently, Karpaty were punished by the Control and Disciplinary Committee of the UAF and held the home match of the 5th round against Vorskla without spectators due to exceeding the permissible limit of fans for the game with Dynamo.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine has allowed fans to attend matches at stadiums since March 2024, but the number allowed remains limited and depends on the number of shelters that will be able to accommodate fans in the event of an air raid alarm.

Karpaty will play their next match today, September 21, away against Chornomorets. The match is scheduled to start at 13:00.
