Babich: We were confronting a direct competitor, we lacked calm and composure

The sailors lost to Karpaty at home, playing out the match with a majority

Head coach Chernomorets Alexander Babich commented on the defeat in the match with Carpathians (0:1) in the seventh round Ukrainian Premier League.

“We lost the match, the emotions are negative. We were up against our direct competitor. The first half plan worked to some extent. We gave up the initiative and tried to catch them on counterattacks.”

“I want to say something about our players. While there is no quality, we need to play reliably and simply in defense. The penalty kick that Karpaty scored – in this situation we needed to play more simply and it would not have happened. After the missed goal, we created chances near the opponent’s goal. Again, there was not enough quality to deliver the ball into the penalty area and complete the attack. There was not enough calm and composure. We have something to work on. There is a lot of work especially in attack.”

“We are looking for the optimal lineup. After the second match, we reorganized a bit, moved Luka Latsabidze to the central zone, returned Udod to the center of defense after an injury. We are looking for the optimal option. We need more time for the players to understand each other better. A match like today will give us more information for analysis than the match against Ingulets.”

“There was no point in making substitutions in the first half. The task was a little different. In the second half, we planned to release players in the 60th minute. We released four attacking players who could create a moment. We almost failed to implement what we planned. If we had scored at least a goal, it would have been a 1:1 draw and there would have been completely different emotions. And then the substitutions would have been used successfully 100%.”

“We have work to do. I think we need to calmly analyze the match and draw the right conclusions. Young players make mistakes. However, there will still be matches where we will fight and win.”

Karpaty took the lead early in the second half, with Taras Sakiv scoring a direct free kick. Later, the visitors were left with ten men, with Volodymyr Adamyuk earning a second yellow card. However, the Sailors failed to take advantage of their numerical superiority.

Chernomorets has six points and is in 12th place in the UPL. In the next match, Babich’s team will play away against LNZ on September 28.
