Syritsa on the debut of the Astana Qazaqstan team and the podium: “I am going to Norway for the first time, the conditions were not easy”

Astana Qazaqstan Team World Tour Intern Gleb Syritsa said that the conditions of the first stage of the Arctic Race of Norway were not easy and that the finish proved its competitiveness, including on short climbs.

Syritsa has been a trainee for the Astana Qazaqstan team since August.

– First of all, I would like to thank the team for their support at this stage, as well as in the final part of the distance. We managed to save some strength and stay pretty fresh for the last 20km. Then it was up to me, I tried to be ahead to control the situation. The weather conditions were not easy, but in general I like rainy weather, so I felt good, the rain did not hurt me, quotes the press service of the team the Russian cyclist.

The finish wasn’t easy, but I managed to get into a good position and finish second. This kind of finish showed that I can be competitive, I can fight for high results on such short climbs, but, of course, there is still work to do and more. For me it’s the first race in Norway, I’ve never been there before. But so far I like everything, the impressions of the first two days are good. Let’s move on,” he added.

Syritsa also answered ‘s question about the combination of track and highway performance (he is one of the Russian national team’s tempo group leaders).

– I think it is not very relevant at the moment, since for now we are talking about the next months of training in the Astana Qazaqstan team, and, of course, for the moment I would like to focus on the highway and on those races in which the team will give me the floor. Well, generally speaking, I don’t see any problem with combining highway and track, many riders do it and succeed everywhere, he pointed out.
