The Astana Qazaqstan Team World Tour team has terminated the contract with Italian Michele Gadzoli, who was suspended for one year for inadvertently violating anti-doping laws.
The Astana Qazaqstan team has received an official notification from the International Cycling Union (UCI) that Gadzoli has been banned for one year due to the presence of the banned substance tuaminoheptane in the A sample taken from the rider during the an in-competition doping control on February 17 in Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta.
The Astana Qazaqstan team reported that Gadzoli explained the presence of this substance in the body using a nasal spray for rhinitis (rinofluimucil), bought alone in a pharmacy without any participation in the process from the medical headquarters of the Astana Qazaqstan team.
The UCI has classified this case as an unintentional anti-doping rule violation.
– Astana Qazaqstan Team categorically stresses that the team had nothing to do with this unfortunate anti-doping rule violation by driver Michele Gadzoli. Following a zero-tolerance policy, the team has taken the decision to terminate Michele Gazzoli’s contract immediately, the team said in a statement.
