Coach of the Russian national cross-country skiing team Egor Sorine answered a question about preparing for an Olympic champion Yulia Stupak for the winter season, and also summed up the results of the Russian roller ski championship.

— Do you consider the summer championship as part of the preparation for the winter season or as a separate and quite prestigious start?
– On the one hand, we are still in the preparatory period. It will last until the end of November, when the first stage of the Russian Cup will take place. On the other hand, past competitions had the status of a national championship. Therefore, it was important for the athletes to perform with dignity.
— Savely Korostelev, 21, performed brilliantly at the championship: two gold medals in the time trial and a silver in the sprint. Is this a consequence of his good preparation or is he a master of roller skiing?
— At the moment, we see Savely making some progress compared to last season. And roller skiers are participating in other competitions. They have simpler tracks and other roller skates are fast. Their Russian championship was held in July in Demino near Rybinsk. Pure skiers performed in Tyumen.
— Yulia Stupak also swims freely?
— She went to self-training. I don’t even know if he will come to the competition in winter.
— What do you think about Maria Istomina’s success?
— Previously, this skier either missed the summer championships or did not perform very well there. Now, without a doubt, she has won two races. It is clear that Masha did a good job this summer. She is 27 years old and people have long been waiting for the results she showed this time. I hope that in the absence of last year’s leader Veronika Stepanova, Istomina will offer a high level of women’s competitions this winter, “said Sorin, quoted by the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee.
In July, Stupak announced that she had voluntarily left the Russian national team to try outside sports and was now training freely.
