Kievans start Europa League with crushing defeat to Lazio
Head coach Dynamo Alexander Shovkovskiy gave a press conference after losing to Lazio (0:3) in the opening match Europa Leagues.
“What, in my opinion, predetermined the outcome of the match? Of course, it is very annoying to lose matches, especially at the start, and in general with such a score. But at this level, opponents do not forgive mistakes. We gave the opponent two goals, which were scored from the central zone. We will still look at these moments, analyze them, but giving the opponent such a handicap is unacceptable.”
“Why was there a lack of efficiency up front? We came out for this game and wanted to play football. We could have closed up, waited, but I want to give my players the opportunity to play football, create combinations, finish them. We had opportunities, but we conceded because of mistakes in the center of defense. And it’s hard for me to add anything about this. This, apparently, is evidence of Lazio’s class – when there are such opportunities, they use them.”
“How much did the early goal and Ceballos’ injury affect the team’s performance? I can’t say that Ceballos’ injury had any particular effect. But, again, I repeat that we made significant mistakes, and these mistakes were in defensive actions. I won’t dwell on individual players, but, as it seems to me, we have no right to allow the opponent to easily pass through the center of defense and give the opportunity to score goals.”
In the match with Lazio, Dynamo was losing 0:3 by the 35th minute of the match – Boulaye Dia scored a double for the Romans, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored another goal. The teams finished the match with ten men – Maxime Bragaru was sent off for Dynamo, and Tijani Noslin for Lazio.
Dynamo will play their next match in the Europa League on October 3 away against Hoffenheim, who started the Europa League with an away draw against Midtjylland (1:1).
Before heading to Hoffenheim, Dynamo will play a match with Left Bank in the UPL – this match will take place on Sunday, September 29.
