Averbukh about the show: “You have to create an expensive story, now you won’t please anyone with three lanterns”

Olympic silver medalist in figure skating, director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi Ilya Averbukh told that all sports broadcasts today are very expensive due to their technological content.

On Friday, Averbukh spoke at the “Show Must Go On” session as part of the “Sports Business Congress” in Moscow.

— Not all sporting events without government support are profitable. The bar is high and the public has high technological demands. From now on, three lanterns will no longer please anyone. You have to create an expensive story. Plus, we’re all competing, there’s water shows, there’s gymnastics shows.

Therefore, you need to look for a golden mean so that there are no illusions. It’s a never-ending struggle “for zero”, and the hope that one of your projects takes off. It is no coincidence that we are talking about tourist activities. Through one activity, you can maintain another project.

The industry is quite complex. Yes, there is some good feedback in the form of standing stands when our champions appear. But there is real purchasing power and we cannot increase ticket prices indefinitely. Business helps quite impulsively, and I would like some sort of strategic partnership when a company decides to conditionally help synchronized swimming for several years at a time. The industry needs to adopt a more professional relationship between those who put on the show and those who finance it.

I bow most profoundly to the government agencies that support me. But these are always questions, always some kind of discussion, ”reports a correspondent, reporting Averbukh’s words.
