18-year-old cyclist dies in hospital after fall at Junior World Championships

Swiss cyclist Muriel Furre died in a hospital in Zurich, where she was taken after a fall during the Junior World Championships, reports the press service of the International Cycling Union (UCI).

The 18-year-old athlete was taken to hospital by helicopter on Thursday. She was in extremely serious condition due to head trauma resulting from a fall.

“With the death of Muriel Furre, the international cycling community loses a rider who had a bright future ahead of her. The UCI expresses its sincere condolences to Furre’s family, friends and the Swiss Cycling Federation, the UCI said in a statement.

The World Cycling Championships take place in Zurich.
