Devin Haney files lawsuit against Ryan Garcia

Haney accuses Garcia of battery, fraud and unjust enrichment

World champion version WBC junior welterweight Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) filed a lawsuit against the American boxer Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).

Haney accuses Garcia of battery, fraud and unjust enrichment. Also in the lawsuit, Devin appeals to the promotion company Golden Boy Promotions with a demand for a complete review and adjustment of the distribution of finances following the results of the head-to-head fight with Garcia.

The Haney-Garcia fight took place in Brooklyn at the end of April. Devin was knocked down three times during the fight. According to the judges’ notes, Ryan triumphed with scores of 114:110 and 115:109. Another judge recorded a draw (112:112).

Garcia, despite the victory, did not take the championship belt from Haney, as he exceeded the agreed weight category limit. According to WBC head Mauricio Sulaiman, the belt does not become vacant, but remains with Devin.

Then Garcia began a “dark” streak. Ryan failed a repeat drug test after the Haney fight. The second sample, like the first, showed a positive result for ostarine, a drug that is used to improve endurance performance. Soon, in June, Garcia announced his retirement.
