The investigative committee has opened criminal proceedings regarding an accident involving a bus carrying supporters of the Victor handball club.

Investigators have opened a criminal case into an accident involving a truck and a bus, in which there were supporters of the Stavropol handball club “Winner “, reports press service Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory.

The fans were returning to Stavropol from Krasnodar, where the Russian championship match against SKIF took place. The accident occurred near the village of Starokorsunskaya; there were 49 people on the bus. According to the latest data, the truck driver died and 22 people were hospitalized in Krasnodar hospitals.

— Based on the fact of a road accident involving a passenger bus and a truck, criminal proceedings were initiated for a crime under Part 3 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules leading to the death of a person due to negligence).

According to preliminary data, on the evening of September 29, the driver of a truck in the sector of the village of Starokorsunskaya entered into oncoming traffic, where he collided with a passenger bus, causing a vehicle fire. The truck driver died at the scene of the accident, the bus passengers, including children, were injured and are receiving necessary medical treatment. The exact number of victims and the severity of their injuries are still being established.

Currently, investigators and criminologists from the region’s Commission of Inquiry continue to work at the scene, the statement said.
