Gymnast representing Latvia Elisabeth Polstiana allowed to continue playing for the country at their own expense, according to the official website of the Latvian Gymnastics Federation.
Earlier, the athlete said that she was not allowed to participate in the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Bulgaria. Polstyanaya was born in Latvia, but grew up in Russia. She obtained Latvian citizenship in 2018 and has since represented the country in international competitions. On , Polstyanaya said she had been given an ultimatum: to renounce Russian citizenship in exchange for participating in the World Cup.
– On August 9, a board meeting of the Latvian Gymnastics Federation took place, during which one of the main issues was the future of gymnast Elizaveta Polstyana in 2022. It was decided that the athlete may continue to participate in competitions at their own expense.
The Federation has prepared and sent the athlete an official letter, to which Elizabeth must respond in writing within a week. We are awaiting news from Elizaveta Polstyana, the post reads.
Earlier it was reported that Latvian athletes who also have Russian or Belarusian citizenship are not entitled to receive state financial assistance, but are not deprived of the right to compete for Latvia in competitions international.
The world championship will take place in Sofia from September 14 to 18.
