The 48-year-old specialist has been working on the Manchester United coaching staff since the summer of 2024.

Manchester United considering appointment Ruud van Nistelrooy to the post of temporary team coach in case of dismissal Erica ten Haga from the post of head coach.

Van Nistelrooy joined ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United in July 2024, signing a two-year contract with the club.

After the devastating defeat to Tottenham (0:3) in the last round of the Premier League, Erik ten Hag himself stated that he was not thinking about his dismissal. In July, the Dutch specialist extended his contract with Manchester United until the summer of 2026.

Van Nistelrooy, during his playing career from 1997 to 2012, played for Heerenveen, PSV, Manchester United (2001 – 2006, 219 matches, 150 goals scored), Real Madrid, Hamburg and Malaga. Scored 35 goals in 70 matches for the Dutch national team.

Subsequently, Ruud worked as an assistant to several coaches in the Dutch national team, and also coached PSV youth teams. He gained his first independent coaching experience at the Eindhoven club in the 2022/23 season – 34 wins in 50 matches, victories in the Super Cup and the Dutch Cup, reaching the Europa League playoffs.

Manchester United will play its next match on October 3 as part of the Europa League – it will face Porto on the road. In the Premier League, ten Hag’s men will play their next game on October 6 away against Aston Villa.
