Figure skaters Elizaveta Shichina and Pavel Drozd told that they will participate in the Grand Prix stages in Krasnoyarsk and St. Petersburg.
On Tuesday, the duo took second place in rhythm dance at the Moscow Championship with a score of 70.56 points.
— How do you judge the start of the season?
Thrush: I really like this season’s rhythm dance theme. I also love music from the 50s. I am very happy that together we chose compositions from this particular decade, because this is the most vibrant period of joie de vivre, brightness and danceability.
I really wanted to present our dance. Before that, we showed our programs to specialists from Novogorsk, tried to take into account their recommendations and showed what kind of work we had done. We are happy that the premiere took place. We still have time to finalize and prepare the stages of the Grand Prix. We will perform on stages in Krasnoyarsk and St. Petersburg.
— Did everything turn out to be what you expected?
Thrush: No, unfortunately, not everything. That’s why we needed this departure, to try out a new composition. But the energy was good.
Shichina: We enjoyed it.
— How do you assess the well-being of your relationship?
Shichina: You can ride all your life, but for us it is a very comfortable process. Everything is laconic, but difficult.
Thrush: It’s hard work every day. Especially at the very beginning. There’s a whirlwind of emotion that helps. It’s little things like that that make up every day. First, a skeleton is formed, then meat grows on it. It’s the same with programs, routines and exercises. You feel your partner before the start, how he reacts before the competition, what approach to warming up.
— How did you become a couple, who turned to whom?
Thrush: I joined the coaching team of Ksenia Gennadievna Rumyantseva. After a while we discussed everything, talked with Elizaveta and the whole team decided that we could try. We looked, tried, rode and decided to become a couple.
— How do you find the new technical staff?
Thrush: For me, it’s like coming home. I am extremely grateful. The training process is very difficult, but you are grateful for what they invest in you every day. You understand that it’s not like that.
— What goals do you set for the season?
Thrush: It is too early to talk about objectives. We have a very professional attitude. Let’s skate the free skate, draw conclusions and prepare further. We want to show great progress from start to finish.
Shichina: We will do everything that depends on us, we will do our best.
The duo Shichina/Drozd was formed in the spring of this year.
Drozd, together with Elizaveta Shanaeva, became silver medalist of the Russian Championship and the final of the 2023 Russian Grand Prix. Last season, the couple took 4th place at the Russian Championship and became fifth at the Spartakiad of the strongest. In March, the dance duo broke up.
Shichina, paired with Gordey Khubulov, took 9th place at the 2023 Russian Championship.
