Manchester United management considers Zidane to replace ten Hagu

At one time, the Frenchman refused to the Red Devils

Management Manchester United continues to work on a possible change in team head coach Erik ten Hag.

One of the options for Manchester United is the Frenchman Zinedine Zidane. It is his candidacy that British businessman and club co-owner Jim Ratcliffe is lobbying for.

Zinedine began his coaching career in the structure of Real Madrid. From 2016 to 2021 (with a break) he was the head coach of Blancos – 11 trophies in four and a half years, including three consecutive victories in the Champions League. The Frenchman left his position as Real Madrid head coach in June 2021 and has been unemployed ever since.

In October 2022, Zidane announced his readiness to return to coaching. In December of the same year, it was reported that Zidane could replace Deschamps after the end of the 2022 World Cup. However, the current coach Le Blais, who took a break to think after the defeat from Argentina in the World Cup final, still remained at the helm of the national team, extending his contract with the French Football Federation.

At one time, Zidane was unsuccessfully wooed by Manchester United, Bayern, PSG, as well as the national teams of Germany and Algeria. Zidane has repeatedly stated that his priority among national teams is France.

After the devastating defeat to Tottenham (0:3) in the last round of the Premier League, Erik ten Hag stated that he was not thinking about his dismissal. In July, the Dutch specialist extended his contract with Manchester United until the summer of 2026.

Zidane is not the only option for the Red Devils. The media also reported that the candidacy of ten Hag’s current assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, was being considered.

Manchester United will play its next match on October 3 as part of the Europa League – it will face Porto on the road. In the Premier League, ten Hag’s men will play their next game on October 6 away against Aston Villa.
