Canadian figure skater Nicolas Sorensen suspended for at least six years for sexual assault, reports journalist Christine Brennan.
In January, media reported that Sorensen had been accused of sexually assaulting an unnamed former American figure skater and now coach in 2012. The woman, who was 22 at the time, described the rape in detail, saying she feared for her life.
The decision to disqualify the athlete, which can be appealed, was made by the independent Canadian organization for the prevention and fight against abuse in sport (Abuse-Free Sport).
Sorensen is 35 years old, at the beginning of his career he played for Denmark and since the 2018/19 season he started to represent Canada. Partnered with Laurence Fournier-Baudry, he took ninth place at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and fifth at the 2023 World Championships.
