“I did not hope that the CAS and the Swiss court would take our side” – Svishchev on the rejection of Valieva’s appeal

Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Dmitry Svishchev said he did not expect the skater’s appeal to be upheld Kamila Valieva on the doping affair.

At the end of January 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. On Wednesday, it became known that the Swiss Federal Court had rejected an appeal against the CAS decision regarding disqualification.

– Expected solution. I didn’t expect the CAS and the Swiss court to take our side. Today, Russophobia and anti-Russian sentiments flourish everywhere. A disqualification of Valieva for four years is pure injustice. This whole affair was created solely for the purpose of imposing strict and demonstrative punishment. Other athletes receive only minor sanctions for similar violations. Some even continue to perform despite positive tests.

The entire WADA and CAS system aims to destroy Russian sport. We have already seen that the CAS did not take into account many aspects when examining Valieva’s case. All this was done specifically to denigrate Russia. But we will not give up and will protect Camila until the end. We will fight for justice in the world of sports,” reports the correspondent of , according to Svishchev’s words.

The 18-year-old Russian’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021, and her results have been canceled since that date.
