Figure skater Samsonov said he was restoring the quadruple flip

Figure skater Daniel Samsonov said he was working on restoring the quadruple flip.

On Thursday, Samsonov, 19, won the short program at the Moscow Championships with a score of 91.83 points.

— I decided to participate in the Moscow Championship because I understand that it is necessary now. After the test skates, I was convinced. I practiced more or less in training, I went to the starting line, and everything went wrong, I didn’t feel in my legs. It was a little better here, but either stage fright or something influenced me, I left with weak legs. I realized I needed to start more now.

In skating tests, it was probably due to jitter. The next day I arrived in Moscow, I resumed training, everything was going more or less. There was no reason for this poor performance. The big crowd puts a bit of pressure on you. That’s probably why I was nervous, I lack competition experience. I don’t know exactly how to solve this problem, but I think that now we will get back into the rhythm of the competition and that little by little everything will get better. As last season showed, I performed well in the last start. Maybe I just got used to it by the end of the season. To prevent this from happening again this season, we decided to perform here.

The training system has changed a little. Usually we skate programs during training and understand that we have the opportunity to ride. After skate testing we realized we only had one inclusion with no ability to roll the program. You should be as focused as possible on a single rental attempt. Basically only that and the number of jumps were changed.

Are there plans to make the content more complex? When we organized the short program, we discussed with the coaches how many quads to insert, but everyone agreed that in the short program there was not such a big difference between the points. If you skate cleanly with a quad and complete everything else at a good level, then you can fight for high places with such content. In the short program, you don’t have to chase quads.

In the free program, I immediately said that we had to make things as difficult as possible. You can definitely earn some points. After the skating tests, Daniil Markovich (Gleikhengauz) and I discussed that if we want to fight for high places at the Russian Championship, at the Grand Prix stages, then we need senior quads. These are flip, lutz and loop. I started restoring them again.

I started with a quadruple flip. I tried a bit of a quadruple lutz, but it’s still a bit difficult. The flip worked immediately from the first workout. I hope that nothing will change until tomorrow, but tomorrow, instead of the first quadruple sheepskin coat, I intend to perform a quadruple turnaround, “the correspondent reports, reporting the remarks by Samsonov.
