Figure skater Daniel Samsonov said that the extension of the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions did not affect his motivation.
Previously, the ISU Council in Lausanne did not reconsider the issue of admitting Russian athletes to international competitions.
On Thursday, Samsonov, 19, won the short program at the Moscow Championships with a score of 91.83 points.
— The ISU extended the suspension. Does this affect you in any way now?
— It’s a little offensive, of course, but our federation tries to compensate for that. I definitely don’t have motivation problems, because I understand that I still need to prove myself, I still have something to prove. It probably didn’t affect me too much, because I still hopefully have a long career. I hope I will have time to ride on the international stage.
I don’t think about it. I come to training every day, realizing that I have some kind of goal for the Russian Championship this season and I have goals for the Grand Prix. “I want to slowly strive to achieve them,” reports a correspondent, according to Samsonov.
Russian figure skaters, speed skaters and short track speed skaters have been suspended from participating in international competitions under the auspices of the ISU since 2022.
