Russian figure skater Andrei Mozalev said that from the outside it is clearer in which indicators he has improved this year.
Mozalev changed coaches in January 2024, now the skater trains in a group Eteri Tutberidze in Moscow. He trained with Kirill Davydenko in Saint Petersburg from the age of eight.
On Friday, Mozalev scored 88.5 points at the Panin-Kolomenkin memorial tournament in St. Petersburg.
— How do you perform on your home ice?
– Good, like at home. I trained here for so many years, it was like I never left.
— Are you satisfied with the rental?
— It’s just a shame about the stunt, the axel could have been done better – it was leading a bit. Two errors. But overall I’m happy.
— What has changed about you this season?
– I can’t say. From the outside, we see better. I’m told I’ve added things that I don’t notice myself. They say I increased my speed.
— What do you plan to improve?
— The short program will become more difficult. I’m going to start doing two quads again. I inserted the sheepskin coat so I could roll it up a bit, feel confident and stabilize the Salchow a bit.
— There is a lot of competition during this tournament. How comfortable are you?
– That encourages me a little. And I don’t pay attention to it. Charge more.
— Do you miss St. Petersburg?
– Certainly. But I often come here both to study and for competitions.
— How is the adaptation going in Moscow?
“I’m already used to it, I’ve settled into this rhythm.”
— Is it important for you to win a medal here?
— I rather came here to test myself before the Grand Prix, to eliminate the defects. “It’s more of a test tournament,” reports a correspondent, according to Mozalev.
Mozalev is a bronze medalist at the Russian Championship (2022), junior world champion (2020).
