Swiss figure skater Anastasia Brandenburg spoke about her Russian roots and training at headquarters Eteri Tutberidze .
Anastasia Brandenburg, 14, was born and lives in Switzerland, but has Russian roots. Last season she made her debut in junior competitions, but at the 2024 Junior World Championships she took sixth place.
— In Russia, we don’t know you much: you represent Switzerland, you have Russian roots, you have come to Eteri Tutberidze several times for an internship. Tell your story in more detail.
— I was born and raised in Switzerland, my parents are Russian and German, so initially I have German nationality. I have been skating since I was four years old. When I was seven years old, we decided to follow the path of professional figure skating.
At first, I skated in my country, once I was in training camp with Stéphane Lambiel. Then, during the school holidays, we went to Russia and worked with different coaches. And then the circumstances turned out that I was able to train with Eteri Georgievna. At first we went to the training camp, and during the next vacation we began to come constantly.
As a child, I admired Anna Shcherbakova, I love her very much, she is my ideal (smiles).
— When you arrived at Tutberidze’s training camp, did you manage to talk to him?
– No, unfortunately. I saw her, but I was too afraid to approach her, I was shy (smile).
— How did your family and friends decide to go to Eteri Georgievna? Was there any negative reaction?
“I watched the performances of Eteri Georgievna’s students all the time. And then the option to come came, how could you miss this opportunity? We went there, we really liked it, the training was very professional.
As for the negative reaction, maybe there was some, maybe not. “I was just training so that my results would improve,” the athlete was quoted as saying by Sport24.
