Figure skaters Zoya Pestova and Sergei Lagutov, who took third place on the Moscow stage of the Russian Junior Grand Prix of Ice Dancing, spoke about their free dance and said that they still have something to work on.
On Friday, Pestova and Lagutov took third place in Moscow, scoring 159.80 points in a total of two programs. The winners were Arina Gorshenina and Ilya Makarov (164.12 points), with second place going to Maria Fefelova and Artem Valov (161.60).
— What emotions do you feel? Would you like to repair something?
Lagutov: We were very happy to perform on our ice rink. We have accepted the shortcomings. There is still a lot of work to do throughout the season. This is our first start this season. We showed that we were capable of it. We will continue to work on it.
Pestova: We are happy that the rhythm dance was performed with speed, confidence and emotion. We will work on technology. There are some flaws with the paso doble and the twizzles. We will refine and improve.
— Your free dance is called “Chaplin Through the Years.” Can you explain the images?
Lagutov: We are telling the story of Charlie Chaplin, with me as the main character. In the end we have modern music, hence the name.
Pestova: The hand gesture at the end of the program doesn’t mean anything profound. It is a change of image from the past to the present accompanied by modern music.
— What would you like for yourself in the future?
Lagutov: Develop, progress further.
Pestova: We’re not such a perfect couple yet. We work on it every day, in unison, to do everything together. We will work on stability so that we can always have confidence in ourselves during competitions.
Last season, Pestova and Lagutov finished eighth in the Russian Championship and seventh in the Fed Cup final.
