The 8th World Freediving Championships took place in Greece
Ukrainian Ekaterina Sadurskaya set a world record and won three medals in world freediving championship in Kalamata (Greece).
Freediving is underwater diving that relies on holding your breath rather than using breathing apparatus such as scuba gear. In addition to holding their breath, athletes are affected by high environmental pressure, which limits the depth and duration of freediving.
Sadurskaya won her first gold in the free rope diving discipline. Ekaterina dived 95 meters, ahead of two US representatives.
The Ukrainian won her second gold medal in the “constant weight without fins” (CNF) discipline. Moreover, she beat her own world recorddiving to 80 meters. The previous world record was set by Sadurskaya at 78 meters.
Ekaterina’s third medal was bronze, which she won in diving with bilasts (separate fins), showing a result of 95 meters.
32-year-old Sadurskaya is also an Honored Master of Sports in synchronized swimming. She is a 2-time European champion in this sport, winning gold in Berlin 2014 (group, combination) and gold in London 2016 (group, free program).
