Former member Great Britain team Athletics Robbie Fitzgibbon has died at the age of 28, according to the website of the Brighton Phoenix club, for which he played.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our most beloved athletes, Robbie Fitzgibbon. A friend to many and a source of motivation to all who had the privilege of knowing him, Robbie embodied everything we value,” the statement said.
Fitzgibbon specializes in middle and long distance running and competed at the 2019 European Indoor Championships as well as the Diamond League. As the BBC notes, he was preparing to take part in the Brighton Marathon in 2025.
