Druzhinin on Pozdniakov’s decision to leave the Republic of China: “Changes are happening everywhere, federations are uniting, the international agenda is changing roles”

President of the Russian Diving Federation Stanislav Druzhinin believes that current realities dictate a change of roles and optimization in national sport.

Tuesday Stanislav Pozdnyakov announced his intention to resign from his post as president of the Russian Olympic Committee (OCD ) after early elections. On November 7, the ROC executive committee will set the date for the Olympic meeting to elect new leadership of the organization.

— I am sure that Stanislav Alekseevich made a deliberate decision. I would like to emphasize that since Stanislav Alekseevich assumed the position of President of the Olympic Committee, significant results have been achieved. He is a former athlete, knows what Olympism is, has extensive experience as a civil servant, he will always take part in solving key problems of our sport, for whatever reason he is sure. We will wait for the decisions at the conference. Of course, what has happened in recent years in Russian sport and the international agenda has led to a shift in roles.

Stanislav Alekseevich said in his statement that in connection with geopolitical challenges, it is necessary to optimize high-level sport. We’ll see what happens next; it’s hard to predict what these changes will bring, we’ll see. Changes are already happening everywhere: a united gymnastics federation has appeared, our water sports are uniting into a common federation. We hope that these changes will contribute to the development of sports in our country,” Druzhinin told .

Pozdnyakov has led the ROC since May 2018. He is a four-time Olympic champion, 10-time world champion, 13-time European champion and five-time Russian champion in saber fencing.
