Sports Director of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) Yuri Borzakovsky told that the Russian team, after returning to the international scene, must demonstrate a high level.
In 2023, it was announced that ARAF was a member of World Athletics after seven years, but the Russians’ suspension from international competitions was extended due to the situation in Ukraine.
— How important is it for athletics to have media coverage? I recently re-watched a race where Dmitry Guberniev false started and gymnast Nikita Nagorny almost passed you.
– Nikita is great. It was my first foray into media, when in 2022 I invited friends. Denis Glushakov, Lesha Yagudin, Nikita Nagorny, Dima Guberniev and Vic Wild arrived. The race was a success, with such a collaboration of several sports, we gave a boost to other sports and then the swimmers came out in varied costumes. We didn’t stop there: in the “Russian winter”, everyone went out in Russian clothes. We try to hold competitions not only in arenas, but also on squares.
We will develop professional and amateur sport, this is the task of our federation. We are not abandoning sports for children and young people; our main Russian national team depends on growing reserves. And as soon as the adult team enters the international scene, they must show that we are truly the best. And of course, we support our veterans,” Borzakovsky told correspondent on the sidelines of the “Russia is a sports power” forum.
