Silver Medal of the High Jump World Championships Danil Lyssenko who won the Sverdlovsk Region Cup, told that he believes in the return of Russian athletes to international competitions.

Lyssenko took first place in the Cup of the Sverdlovsk region, the 25-year-old athlete showed a result of 2.31 m. Lyssenko was disqualified in the summer of 2018 for missing three doping tests. His suspension expired in early August.

– How many times during the disqualification did you think about ending your career?

– There were no such thoughts at all. On the contrary, I thought about when to start preparing, to start training. Yes, there were times when I didn’t train at all. Especially it was at the beginning, but that moment had passed. I only really started training this winter. I haven’t trained for 3.5 years. Only in January and February I started to train actively, ”Lysenko told .

Where are you going to perform next?

– On the 17th, I will perform in Moscow at the Kuts Memorial. I will be there.

– Can we say that the performance of Russian athletes in international competitions is now impossible?

— Now it is very difficult to speak, especially with my situation. I can’t say anything yet, but I hope that after a while I and other Russian athletes will have such an opportunity. I really hope.

Russian athletics has been under sanctions since 2015 in connection with several doping scandals. In July, the World Athletics Association approved 18 applications from Russian athletes for neutral status.
