“The sensations were highly anticipated, unreal.” Jumper Lysenko – about the first start after a long disqualification

high jumper Danil Lyssenko told his impressions of the first competitive start after a four-year disqualification.

The day before, Lyssenko won first place in the Cup of the Sverdlovsk region, the 25-year-old athlete showed a result of 2.31 m. The athlete was disqualified in the summer of 2018 for missing three tests of doping. His suspension expired on August 2.

– The sensations were long overdue, unreal… I don’t know. I went to this start and really wasn’t expecting anything. Yes, I trained, yes, I practiced. I really liked the beginning itself, the audience supported me very well. Pleasant and forgotten feelings. There was no excitement at the competition itself. For some reason it was nighttime when I was about to go to bed. A few times I thought about the competition and worried. But I managed to put all my thoughts aside and fall asleep.

– During the period of your disqualification, how did you imagine your return?

– Yes, I can say for sure that everything is exactly like that. The plans were to jump 2.28m and God forbid! But it turned out, as you can see, more, which I am very happy about.

– Who was with you at the tournament?

– My wife came with me, my mother came from Birsk. They supported me. There was also a coach who brought younger guys into competition. There was such native support,” Lysenko said.
