Olympic pair figure skating champion Elena Berezhnaya spoke about preparing her daughter for pair skating.

Sofia-Diana Kasins, Elena Berezhnaya’s daughter, is 15 years old. She performs in pairs skating with Alexander Bregay.

— Have you made it your mission to prepare Sofia for a great sport? Somehow everything worked out for us. I saw that Sofia is capable of many things. Therefore, she and I aimed to learn triple jumps, preferably all of them. We barely managed to surpass the level of a candidate for a sports master’s degree. We are not a budget school, but a commercial school, so getting the necessary starts in St. Petersburg to complete the CMS proved to be very difficult. If we were representing a figure skating academy, this probably wouldn’t be a problem. But Sonya represented the Stavropol region for two years.

From the beginning I understood: Sofia is small, which means she is ideal for pair skating. I was waiting for her to be mature enough to learn all the triple jumps, because without complex jumps there is nothing to do in modern pair skating. In this day and age, you could score a few triples and leave it at that. It is now advisable to jump in both flip and lutz, preferably also in triple stunt. So, one could say, I was preparing the boy, deliberately developing my daughter in various directions: we mastered all the elements, learned to dance. The ideal section is a little lacking, but the existing one is quite sufficient. As they say, the material for further work is good,” Berezhnaya told RT.
