“Puberty was very difficult for me. They even accidentally operated on appendicitis.” – Berezhnaya, Olympic champion

Elena Berezhnaya, Olympic champion in pairs figure skating in 2002, talked about how her puberty went.

— There is such a widespread point of view that it is much easier for young athletes to overcome puberty: it is said that if you are lucky with your constitution, no problems will affect you.

“We’re still waiting for that moment to come.” You can not only gain weight, but also grow two meters, and that will be the end of all pair skating. This is why we live today and now. Looking back on my own experience, puberty was very difficult for me. Even for appendicitis, an operation was performed accidentally.

– In terms of?

— In the sense that there were symptoms, but ultimately there was no appendicitis. There were certain difficulties with weight when we changed countries – we left Russia for America. Different water, different food – all this led to a real problem. Everything seems fine, and then you step on the scale, and there’s over 10 pounds. To be honest, at first I didn’t even understand how to deal with this: I have never had such an experience at home,” Berezhnaya said, as quoted by RT.

Berezhnaya is also a two-time world champion and two-time European champion.
