The qualifying mini-tournament will take place from November 13 to 19
Head coach Ukrainian national team U-19 Dmitry Mikhailenko commented on the team’s performance at the international tournament in Marbella, Spain.
“We are pleased that we were able to play with the best teams in Europe, which are certainly the Netherlands and England. This was the experience that our football players playing in the Ukrainian championship needed on the eve of the qualifying round of the European Championship. We tested our strengths and tried different combinations of player interaction.”
“In these control matches we were able to watch all the performers. Currently, we have almost decided on the candidates for the trip to the Netherlands. The coaching staff already understands how to use certain players in different situations on the field. It’s important that all the guys we rely on are healthy in November.”
The tournament in Marbella was held according to the Olympic system, four teams took part – in addition to Ukraine U-19, England U-18, Sweden U-18 and the Netherlands U-18 also played. Mikhailenko’s team lost to the Netherlands in the semi-finals (0:1) and England (1:3) in the match for third place.
The Ukrainian U-19 national team will play in the qualification for the 2025 European Championship. The qualifying mini-tournament will be hosted by the Netherlands. Mikhailenko’s team will play against Kazakhstan (November 13), Slovenia (November 16) and the Netherlands (November 19).
The first two teams of each group (out of 13 quartets) of the qualifying round and the best third will advance to the elite round of selection. Together with Portugal in the spring of 2025, they will compete in seven groups for seven spots in the final tournament. Youth Euro 2025 will take place in Romania.
