The British heavyweight is confident that in a new meeting with the Ukrainian he will “do everything right”
IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) said he is ready for a rematch with the holder of the WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight belts Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs).
“Rematch with Usyk? Yes, sure. We have unfinished business. This is true. Now I’m going to do it right. Write a script and implement it correctly. I’ll finish him this time. It will be a good fight. This is a unification match. A very important confrontation. So yes, I’m ready.”
On August 26 last year in Wroclaw, Usyk fought with Dubois. In the fifth round, Usyk found himself on the floor after Dubois hit the Ukrainian below the belt. The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued. Dubois said the hit was clean and he was deprived of a legitimate victory.
At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.
On September 21, 2024, in London, Dubois defeated Joshua. Daniel knocked down AJ three times and knocked out his opponent in the fifth round. Dubois defended the IBF title, which he received after Usyk abandoned it.
Subsequently, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al al-Sheikh, said that a rematch between Dubois and Joshua could take place on February 22 in Riyadh. The fight could take place as part of the “5 on 5” event between Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing, which was previously announced by Al ash-Sheikh in February. The IBF, in turn, allowed Dubois to fight a rematch with Joshua until April 22.
On the night of May 18-19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
