The New York Liberty win the WNBA for the first time in history.

The team beat Minnesota in five matches, winning the final series on the sixth attempt.

Women’s Basketball Club New York Liberty became the winner for the first time in its history WNBA. In the final episode the team Sandy Brondello managed to overcome Minnesota Lynx – 3:2 on aggregate.

In the final series of up to three wins, the opponents played all five matches. In the decisive match, Minnesota played stronger in the first two quarters, going into the break with a +7 lead. New York was able to make up ground in the third quarter. The dramatic ending was marked by a draw result of 60:60. In overtime, Liberty put the pressure on the opponent, celebrating triumph with a final score of 67:62.

For Liberty, this was the sixth final, and the five previous New York basketball players lost – three times to Houston (1997 – 2000), once each to Los Angeles (2002) and Las Vegas (2023).

The WNBA’s most decorated teams are the Minnesota Lynx, Houston Comets and Seattle Storm, with the latter two winning all four of their finals.

The regular season of the 2024-25 NBA men’s season begins on October 22.
