Courtois: Lunin is a great goalkeeper, he makes me train even better

Blancos goalkeepers help each other in training

Belgian goalkeeper Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois spoke about his relationship with the Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrey Lunin.

“I try to help him. He also pushes me to train better and show me why I should play and not him. This competition always makes you better, and then I try to help not only him, but also Fran and the goalkeepers who can rise higher. I try to give them my advice. I understand it’s not easy considering he played so many games last year. Lunin is a great goalkeeper, and I am sure that he will continue to help us.”

Thibault missed almost the entire 2023/24 season due to two serious knee injuries. The Belgian managed to recover by May, received credit from Carlo Ancelotti and did not let the team down – five clean sheets, including the Champions League final. During Courtois’s absence, Ukrainian Andrey Lunin won the competition for a place in the team.

This season, Thibault has played 11 matches for the club in all competitions. Lunin, in turn, played two matches, missing one goal.

Real takes second place in La Liga. The Blancos will play their next match on October 22 against Borussia D in the Champions League.
