Spaniard Fernandez Arimani was elected president of the International Triathlon Union

Spaniard Antonio Fernández Arimani has been elected the new head of the International Triathlon Union (World Triathlon), according to the organization’s website.

The World Triathlon presidential elections took place on October 21 in Torremolinos, Spain. Fernandez Arimani replaced her compatriot Marisol Casado at the head of the union, who resigned after 12 years of reign.

“I am honored to accept this responsibility and lead our beloved sport into a new era.” It’s an exciting time for triathlon and I’m ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead. Together we will work to take triathlon to the next level, ensuring our athletes, coaches and communities have the support they need to thrive,” said Fernandez Arimani, 56.

Gabriela Gallegos (United States), Shin Otsuka (Japan), Antonio Alvarez (Mexico) and Debbie Alexander (South Africa) were elected vice-presidents of the World Triathlon.
