In 2024, Yaroslava broke the world record in the high jump and also won gold at the Paris Olympics.

Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslav Maguchikh spoke about her nomination for an award from World Athletics. The Ukrainian also shared her plans for her future career.

“Of course, I deserve the title of the best athlete in the world. This is not the first time I have been nominated for this award. In addition, she was the athlete of the year according to European Athletics in the Rising star category, so the title of the best in the world is not enough. I’m glad I was nominated. “I showed a really good result: I became an Olympic champion and broke a world record, so it’s logical.”

“It’s actually just my favorite thing to do. I do jumping and I like it. I want to improve and demonstrate good results in order to adequately represent our country at the international level.”

“I want to take part in two more Olympics. It’s clear, I plan to win a medal in each, but it’s too early to say, because there’s still a long way to go.”

Let us remind you that Yaroslava is nominated for the title of the best athlete in the world from non-running disciplines in 2024. Her competitors for the prize from World Athletics were Valerie Allman (USA), Tara Davis-Woodhall (USA), Nina Kennedy (Australia) and Thiam Nafissatou (Belgium).

Yaroslava Maguchikh was recognized as the best athlete in Ukraine based on the results of June, August and September. Yaroslava was also recognized as the best athlete of Ukraine in 2023.
