Girona won their first ever victory in the Champions League, beating Slovan with Ignatenko

The Ukrainian midfielder started for the Slovak club and earned a yellow card

Girona beat on home field Slovan from Bratislava in the third round Champions League 2024/25 – 2:0.

The Catalans had an overwhelming advantage in the first half. They managed to turn it into a result before the break; Miguel Gutierrez scored a goal.

In the 73rd minute, Juanpe scored the second goal for the hosts. Girona could have won the game, but at the end of the match Christian Stuani missed his penalty.

The Ukrainian winger was not included in the Catalans’ squad for this game. Victor Tsygankovwho continues to recover from injury. Another Ukrainian Daniil Ignatenkocame out in the starting line-up for Slovan. The midfielder received a yellow card and was then replaced in the 78th minute.

Girona won the first ever victory in the Champions League and rose to 20th place in the table. Slovan is in last place, having lost three out of three matches.

In the next round, Girona will play away against PSV, and Slovan will host Dinamo Zagreb. Both matches will take place on November 5.
