European figure skating champion Alena Kostornaya talked about the General Physical Preparation (GPP) classes at the academy Evgenia Plushenko .
Kostornaya moved from Honored Coach of Russia Eteri Tutberidze to the Plushenko group in the summer of 2020. In the spring of 2021, the athlete returned to the previous team. This offseason, Kostornaya again changed the group – now the skater is under the leadership of Elena Buyanova.
– OFP there (in Plushenko) is at a very high level. In Khrustalny we also did pumping, but the main work in the gym was reduced to practicing floor jumps. Towers, axels, hollows – all in a row. Plushenko is different. Lots of twists, other devices, exercises. I remember after the first workout I crawled out of the gym and for a week I couldn’t move my arm or leg. Then she somehow adapted, but looked with admiration at those who later went on the ice and began to skate, – quotes Kostornaya RT.
