The Briton did not know about the loss during the fight
Former WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO) said that his wife had a miscarriage before the first fight between the Briton and the Ukrainian Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs).
“She lost her baby on the Friday before the fight, which was terrible. She was six months pregnant. It’s not like having a small miscarriage at the beginning.”
“You have to physically give birth to a stillborn child, alone, while your husband is in a foreign country. Going through this alone is bad. I couldn’t be with her at that moment. And it’s hard for me that I couldn’t be there for her at that time.”
“When she said she couldn’t come, I realized there was a problem. She usually attends the ring the week before a fight, but she said she has high blood pressure. Turki Al ash-Sheikh offered us a private plane and said that he could bring a doctor with him. She said she couldn’t come. I asked her what happened and asked her to tell me, but she wouldn’t. So I knew there was a problem.”
“I told my brother, ‘She lost that baby.’ She never told me she lost the baby, but I knew. When I returned, I received the inevitable confirmation that the child had died, but she kept it to herself.”
On Wednesday, the first press conference and duel of views between the boxers took place. Usik appeared in public to the song “Ave Maria” in the extravagant image of the hero of the computer game series Hitman. Fury came out to the song “Barbie Girl.” The event was hosted by legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer.
Let us remember that on the night of May 18-19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight. Oleksandr Usyk will prepare for the rematch in a training camp in Valencia. The Ukrainian said that he attracts scientists, psychologists to the training camp, and is constantly looking for suitable sparring partners. Tyson Fury said he will begin training six to seven weeks before the fight.
