Andrea Stella doesn’t like the way opponents pressurize the British team through the media.
McLaren boss Andrea Stella has accused his rivals of “trying psychological warfare” over the controversy over the rear wing used by the team at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
After Oscar Piastri’s victory in Baku, the British team had to abandon that detail of the rear wing due to complaints from rivals that that part was considered illegal.
“Our wings comply with the technical regulations and pass all the current flexibility tests. At the same time, we have conducted negotiations with the FIA, receiving all the necessary assurances,” Motorsport quoted Stella.
“We read a lot of commentary in the media, opinions that came primarily from our opponents, not journalists. And some of the articles seemed to be a vehicle for the voices of some of our opponents.”

“We are annoyed by this. These articles are seen as a tool used by teams who want to make McLaren look bad through the media.”
“The technical aspects are taken into account by the federation, regulations, checks. But trying to make the team look bad puts us in a situation where there is nothing concrete. This is an attempt at psychological warfare aimed at weakening the enemy.”
“At the end of the day, this story made us stronger as a team. When our opponents are upset with our technical solutions, I can say that they are giving us good news.”
