Alexander remains at this moment the last Ukrainian athlete to win gold at the Winter Games.

Olympic champion in ski acrobatics Alexander Abramenko announced his retirement.

He confirmed his decision to leave the sport in an interview with Tribuna.com.

“Yes, since May I did not sign a contract as an athlete-instructor, but I passed the competition and signed a contract as the senior coach of the full-time Ukrainian freestyle acrobatics team. I also hold the position of the first vice-president of the national ski federation of Ukraine,” said Abramenko.

Abramenko won the last gold medal for Ukraine at the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018, and in Beijing 2022 he became a silver medalist. He also won silver at the 2019 World Championship.

The last time Alexander played for the Ukrainian national team was at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. He ended the season early after the first period due to knee problems. He missed the entire 2023/24 season.

Abramenko was the most successful Ukrainian athlete at the Winter Olympics, winning two medals. She was also second only to Vita Semerenko (gold and bronze in 2014), who won two medals at the Winter Games.
