Former Russian national team doctor Filipp Shvetsky explained why figure skaters were involved in the doping case Kamila Valieva the names of 60 different medications and supplements were present.
— As for the 60 types of medications allegedly taken by the athlete, the data comes from documents according to which the team doctor reports on medications previously collected before leaving for a sporting event, and not from medical history confirming their use. The range of listed drugs does not at all correspond to the widespread information about athletes’ drug addiction,” quotes Shvetsky, in Soviet Sport.
At the end of January 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The International Skating Union (ISU) reviewed the results of the team figure skating tournament of the 2022 Games, in which the Russian team won. First place was awarded to the American team, the Japanese came second, and the Russians received bronze.
Valieva’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021 and her results have been canceled since that date.
