The only goal scored by El-Kaabi, a direct competitor of the Ukrainian
Olympiacos got a minimal away win over Malmo in the 3rd round Europa League – 1:0.
The reigning Conference League winners have had a tough time in Sweden. The match was generally equal, and its fate was decided by one goal. This goal at the end of half an hour was scored by Ayoub El Kaabi, the main center forward of the Greek team, who is so far outmatched by the Ukrainian Roman Yaremchuk, from a pass from Gelson Martins.
In the end, El-Kaabi could have scored a double, but missed the penalty. Immediately after this, the Moroccan was replaced, but not by Yaremchuk – our compatriot again, as in most of the last matches, sat in reserve. Malmö desperately tried to win back, but the guests in general and Konstantinos Tsolakis in particular managed to keep their goal locked.
Roman has one goal left in seven matches of the season, and the Ukrainian, when he does appear, spends on average about 20 minutes on the field. For comparison, El-Kaabi scored for the eighth time in 11 matches.
Having won a second international victory in a row (and again a clean sheet), Olympiacos scored six points and secured a foothold in the top half of the LE general stage standings. In the fourth round, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team will host Rangers on November 7.
