22 year old American Regan Smith installed a new one world record in the 100m backstroke in short course.
Smith showed a result of 54.41 seconds at the second stage of the World Cup in Incheon, South Korea. Thus, she surpassed the achievement of Australian Kylie McKeown, which she set 29 days ago at the home national championship. Kylie then showed a result of 54.56 seconds.
Smith is a two-time Olympic relay champion in Paris. She also has three silver medals at the 2024 Games, two silvers and a bronze at Tokyo 2020. The athlete became world champion five times.
Regan Smith is also the world record holder in the 100m backstroke (57.13 seconds), a record she set in June 2024 while qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games.
