Tarasova about Ezhlov’s somersault: “You don’t live as long as I saw this element!”

Russian figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova told she’s been watching somersaults for 50 years; this element on ice is not new to her.

Saturday, a Russian figure skater Andrei Ejlov performing ice dancing in tandem with Sofia Shevchenko performed a somersault during a rhythmic dance during the first stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Magnitogorsk. The athletes received 74.14 points for their performance and finished fourth. Yezhlov previously stated that he wanted to become the first skater to perform this element in ice dancing.

— Very good competition in terms of intensity, athlete performance and judgment. I watched all the dances, everything was fine, everything was right.

-Can you make out anyone?

— I don’t want to single out anyone at the start of the season, the judges did it for me.

– Yezhlov did a somersault. How do you like it?

– I saw. Now they allowed a somersault – he did it. I’ve seen this element in figure skating for 50 years, you haven’t lived as long as I’ve seen somersaults!

The International Skating Union (ISU) has approved somersaults in figure skating in 2024, lifting a ban that had existed for many years. Previously, skaters were fined for performing an element with a two-point deduction.

The competitions in Magnitogorsk will take place on October 26 and 27. After the first day, Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin are leading the pair dance competition.
