Ukrainian received an award at the European Athletics Awards
Ukrainian Yaroslav Maguchikh recognized best athlete in Europe in 2024. The jumper received an honorary prize at the ceremony European Athletics Awards.
Yaroslava became the best athlete in Europe for the first time. For two previous years, the Ukrainian was among the finalists for the award from European Athletics.
This year, Yaroslava won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games, and also became the European champion and won the Diamond League. In July, Maguchikh broke the world high jump record, which had stood since 1987 – Yaroslava cleared 2.10 m at the Diamond League stage in Paris.
The top three in the category of the best athlete also included the Netherlands’ Femke Bol (400-meter run) and Keely Hodgkinson (800-meter run) from Great Britain, who, like the Ukrainian, won gold medals at the European Championships and the Paris Olympics. Let us remember that a year ago Maguchikh also claimed the title of best athlete of the year in Europe, but in the end Bol received the award.
A historic season! 🫶
