“I still believe in myself.” Figure skater Shcherbakova said she doesn’t focus on signs before going on the ice

Olympic figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova in conversation with Press service The Sirius Educational Center said she did not believe in omens, but relied only on her own training.

– Do you have a tradition or ritual that you always use before going out on the ice?

– I always believe in my strength, without relying on signs. If we talk about rituals, I would rather talk about preparation. Everyone prepares for competition in much the same way, but over the years, with experience, their own habits develop. And you already know exactly every minute how to properly warm up, prepare, connect to the competition.

For a few years, I already had my own tactics, which I adhered to. I came to the tournament, we have about three days before the start, and I knew my tasks for each day. Apart from what we have at the rink, I trained at the hotel, went to the gym, I knew when I had to train, when to rest. You just develop your own rhythm, you know how to set up both the body and the head separately. It’s just training and good mental preparation,” Shcherbakova said.

Shcherbakova is the Beijing 2022 Olympic champion, world champion and two-time European silver medalist.
