Olympic medalist Enbert explained who he watches in pairs skating and ice dancing

Olympic silver medalist Alexandre Enbert in a chat with , he named his favorite dance duets and sports couples.

Enbert is 35 years old, together with Natalya Zabiyako he became a bronze medalist at the World and European Championships, and as a member of the Russian national team he won silver at the 2018 Olympic Games in competitions per team. In February 2020, he announced his retirement.

— How do you assess the situation of our pairs skating? During the first stages of the Russian Grand Prix, four couples were entered.

— This is a normal situation for pair skating. This is happening not only here in Russia, but also all over the world. There are a lot of single skaters, ice dancing is a less traumatic sport, so people go there too. Pair skating is a fairly complex sport: twists, throws, finding a partner. Unfortunately, such periods exist. I would like there to be some sort of gathering for dancers, where they could learn from their experience and find contacts.

— Which of our young couples could you choose?

— I really like Natalya Khabibullina and Ilya Knyazhuk. It’s a very powerful, beautiful pair skating that has everything: beautiful lines, complex elements, interesting programs. Everything went well for this couple. Elizaveta Osokina and Artem Gritsaenko are very memorable: energetic, assertive, with their own mood and presentation. Ekaterina Chikmareva and Matvey Yanchenkov make a good couple. If they continue to skate consistently and improve, they will make a great duo.

— There are a lot of new dance duos, who do you follow?

— In dance, everything has been very chaotic lately. If we do not take the Russian champions, then, of course, Irina Khavronina and David Narizhny. Last year, they simply burst into Russian figure skating. It was very interesting; throughout the year, they maintained their level.

It will be interesting for me to watch Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Maxim Nekrasov. Vasilisa is a wonderful partner and she looks amazing on the ice. She and Maxim matched each other perfectly: majestic, flexible, complementing each other in energy. Sofia Leontyeva and Daniil Gorelkin produce technically very complex programs. I follow them with pleasure, they have their own style that attracts attention,” Enbert told .
